'Star Wars: Episode 9' Rumor: How Lando's Flashback Story Reveals Rey's Background

The issue of Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) parents, which may be discussed again in “Star Wars: Episode 9,” has once again captured the imagination of the fans. A recent rumor about the film has revealed who her parents are, and it appears that Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) will be the one who will share the secret in the upcoming film.

According to the rumor, Rey is the daughter of Han Solo (Harrison Ford), but she is not a Skywalker because she was born after her father had an affair with someone. This happened when Leia (Carrie Fisher) was busy with her Jedi training with Luke (Mark Hamill).

The affair appears to be the reason why Leia did not continue with her training, and it is also the reason why Ben Solo (Adam Driver) started acting out and was sent to Luke, Making Star Wars reported. The rumor also states that it is actually Lando who tells this flashback story to Finn (John Boyega) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), which is when everyone finds out about Rey’s true background as well as the connection she shares with Kylo Ren.

The rumor seems to be true because a source told Making Star Wars that there is a flashback in “Star Wars: Episode 9” involving a “previous character” that will be “unexpected.” Is this about Lando telling the unexpected story of Rey’s parents?

This rumor was recently shot down by Lucasfilm’s Pablo Hidalgo on Twitter. Hidalgo confirmed that the rumor doesn’t fit the timeline, and he also confirmed that Han and Leia were together until five years before “The Force Awakens,” at which time Rey was already 19 years old.

Although Hidalgo has debunked the rumor, there may be ways for Rey to have some connection to both Han Solo and Leia, and Lando may still be the one who will reveal this connection. Director JJ Abrams too previously confirmed in an interview with ABC News that there is more to the story about Rey’s parents than what the fans already know, and this will be revealed in “Star Wars: Episode 9.”
