For some time now, there has been a popular “Star Wars: Episode 9” theory circulating online about the former Empire’s fleet. The theories are based on the canon novels and games that reveal the Emperor’s (Ian McDiarmid) contingency plan just before his death. However, new evidence suggests that the Star Destroyers seen in the trailer neither belong to the Empire nor the First order that took its place.

The following article contains minor “Star Wars: Episode 9”spoilers.

The footage released at the D23 event teased a vast armada of Star Destroyers that is expected to be sitting in wait in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy. But, who do these ships belong to? Are they ships that escaped after the fall of the Empire? Or are they ships of the First Order?

According to new evidence, the Star Destroyers neither belong to the fallen Empire nor do they belong to the First Order, CBR reported. If the brightness of the scene from the D23 video is adjusted, the ships are revealed to have a red trim that was not there in the ships that have been around so far.

The picture confirms that the Star Destroyer armada in “Star Wars: Episode 9” are recently built ships. The red trim suggests that they are Sith ships, and that means they may belong to Palpatine. It remains to be seen how he managed to build the ships in the dangerous Unknown Regions.

The Making Star Wars website that accurately leaked details about the previous movies from the franchise, has also confirmed that the Sith fleet of Star Destroyers is waiting in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy to complete its mission. The red Sith Troopers that were recently confirmed are said to be a part of this fleet.

The Sith fleet and the fight against the Emperor should be in the last act of “Star Wars: Episode 9,” CBR reported. Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) are expected to join forces to defeat this evil once and for all.
