'Star Wars: Episode 9': Why Rey's Red Sash Is Significant
Few fans would have noticed the red sash Rey (Daisy Ridley) held in her hand while training in the “Star Wars: Episode 9” D23 video. This is not a random piece of cloth she was holding, and it has a deeper meaning in the canon of the franchise.
The brief glimpse of Rey training in the forest teased just how powerful she has become in not only the use of the Force, but also with the wielding of a lightsaber. A time jump is expected in the next film, and the young Jedi must have learnt much from the books she took from the temple in the previous movie.
So what does that red sash in her hand mean? According to Screen Rant, a sash of different colors is used to signify the level of mastery in combat skills in different academies, and in this case it is about how good the practitioner is with a lightsaber. The red color signifies that Rey has a high degree of mastery of the weapon, both in terms of the speed and power.
This means that Rey will be a Jedi Master in “Star Wars: Episode 9.” Her training in the forest is also significant because this may be the time she has to face her final test or temptation towards the Dark Side, a scene that the Dark Rey was about. In a way, this mirrors the character’s journey with that of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in “Return of the Jedi.”
The Dark Rey scene has been a subject of intense discussion among the fans online. One fun video that has surfaced online shows the double-bladed lightsaber turn into a Swiss Army version of the weapon.
Another thing of note in the D23 video is that Kylo Ren’s (Adam Driver) cape was digitally added in the post production, Screen Rant reported. Director JJ Abrams and his team are currently busy putting the finishing touches to “Star Wars: Episode 9,” and they have enough time to fix these minor problems before the movie is released.
