Is 'Star Wars' Planet 'Tatooine' A Realistic Place To Host Life?

The dusty desert environment of Luke Skywalker's home planet in the Star Wars franchise, Tatooine, isn't the most appealing when compared to the other fantasy planets, but scientists think it could sustain life.

Tatooine is known for having two suns, making for beautiful sun sets that you can only catch in the event that sand storms or raiders don't get to you while you take in the view.

NASA scientists at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory figured out that two sun solar systems can support actual planets and a new study published in Nature Communications found that there is a possibility that those planets could be habitable and could also be covered in water.

The catch is that the planet would have to exist in the perfect distance from either sun in its solar system. The researchers made their discovery by creating a model for planet Kepler 35b and used it as a hypothetical situation.

They found that the closer the planet was to the stars within the habitable zone, the better chance there was for stability and for water presence. Too close to the far side of the habitable zone and there would probably be too much variation in the surface temperature for life. But in a system with two suns, the planet would take a weird orbit too. Instead of being smooth and circular orbit like our Earth has, it would has a wobbly orbit due to both gravitational pulls.

Such a planet would have to be perfectly placed, with the perfect conditions, much like Earth is, for it to sustain life, but it would not be out of the question in a two-star solar system meaning the possibilities for where habitable exo-planets may exist just increased.
