‘Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker': 4 Things That Will Change The Galaxy As Fans Know It
“Star Wars” fans everywhere keep their eyes on the stars as “Episode 9” leaks continue to circulate. In many of them, the vision of J.J. Abrams’ upcoming film is only expounded upon. Even promotional photos give way to a universe of incite as “The Rise of Skywalker” draws closer. The following list proves this isn’t the same franchise from 1977, it’s so much more.
1. New And Old Characters
A bevy of character photos for “Episode 9” displays a range of returning characters, such as Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron, Daisy Ridley’s Rey, and Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren. Though plenty of new and interesting additions will be joining “The Rise of Skywalker” cast, from the likes of Jannah, played by Naomi Ackie, Keri Russell’s Zorri Bliss, and Richard E. Grant playing a fierce Allegiant General Pryde, both father of General Hux and main leader of the First Order.
2. Far Larger Than Ever Before
As most “Star Wars” movies tend to do, the third is often the most bombastic and epic experience yet. And, given that “Episode 9” is the fated conclusion of the Skywalker saga as fans know it, it will likely include some unforgettable moments.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Abrams discusses the nature of his closing segment in the “Star Wars” pantheon. He says, “On this, we knew who and what worked, and everyone is doing the best work I’ve ever seen anyone do. But the ambition of this movie is far greater than 'Force Awakens'. What we set out to do was far more challenging. Everything is exponentially larger on this.”
3. All-New Force Powers
One of the most anticipated pieces of new footage “The Rise of Skywalker” boasts is Force powers showcased by both Rey and Kylo Ren. Abrams has spoken out about this before, as many fans have longed to see what true Force powers can do when wielded at their fullest potential.
Additionally, the question of Rey’s parentage remains at the forefront of every fan's mind, and Abrams knows he must quell said raging questions, what with “The Last Jedi” waving them off as nothing of importance. In the same EW interview, Ridley adds, “The parents thing is not satisfied — for her and for the audience. That’s something she’s still trying to figure out — where does she come from?”
4. More Than Just The Force
While the Force is one of the most iconic and important ingredients in “Star Wars,” Abrams has also pointed out that Rey specifically won’t be relying all too much on the force this go around. He says in the EW interview, “The scavenger who is desperate and haggling for portions and trying to survive [in 'Force Awakens'] — those special skills and that special experience ends up being something that is essential to saving the galaxy.”
After all, it’s not always about special space powers, but often wit, trust, and friendship that remain at the heart of the “Star Wars” experience.
The Force behind "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" will be pulling fans into the theaters starting Dec. 20.
