'Star Wars: Rivals' PvP Game Announced For iOS, Android Devices
Lucasfilm and Disney have announced “Star Wars: Rivals,” a new mobile game for Android and iOS devices. The new PvP mobile game features cover-base third-person shooter gameplay and the franchise’s most popular characters.
“Highlighting legendary clashes, the character roster is an all-star lineup spanning multiple eras of Star Wars, allowing players to experience the saga’s most famous conflicts,” Lucasfilm and Disney said in a post published on the official “Star Wars” website. “The gameplay is rooted in cover-based PvP skirmishes where players build the ultimate team to challenge opponents in combat arenas. Get a first look in the screenshots below.”
The roster of “Star Wars: Rivals” will include fan-favorites like Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Princess Leia and Han Solo. The game also features some of the new characters that Disney introduced in “The Force Awakens” and “Rogue One,” like Finn, Captain Phasma, Jyn Erson and Director Krennic.
“Star Wars: Rivals” lets users challenge other players in PvP arenas. The game is cross-platform compatible, so iOS and Android gamers will be able to go head-to-head. Players will have to form a team composed of their favorite characters, each of which have their own different roles and abilities. Battling in PvP matches will unlock rare and powerful characters.
As the name of the game suggests, having rivals fight will earn players extra battle points. Rivalries include Han Solo vs Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker vs Darth Vader and Finn vs Captain Phasma. Battles in “Star Wars: Rivals” will take place in familiar locations from the franchise, like Bespin, Scarif, Jakku and the Death Star.
Players will also be able to form teams of the same faction like the Rebellion, Empire, First Order and Underworld. This will grant players faction bonuses like increased damage and health regeneration. The game also lets players join Guilds, allowing them to climb up the Arena Leaderboards and claim additional rewards.
“Star Wars: Rivals” doesn’t have a release date yet, but players on Android can pre-register on the Google Play Store now and get exclusive access to Death Troopers, the black-armored elite troopers features in “Rogue One.” For players on iOS, they will get exclusive access to Rebel Special Forces support units when the game launches.
Although Lucasfilm and Disney is only officially announcing the game now, “Star Wars: Rivals” has already been around for some time now. As reported by Touch Arcade, the game already had its soft launch in Australia last year in June.
