Steve Bannon Thinks Trump Has 30% Chance Of Finishing Term: Report

A Vanity Fair piece published Wednesday reported that many in and around the White House are worried about the mental health of President Donald Trump.

The piece comes in the wake of a New York Times interview in which Republican Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee said that Trump’s reckless threats could set the U.S. “on the path to World War III.”

In the piece, reporter Gabriel Sherman described a source telling him that former chief strategist Steve Bannon gave Trump a 30 percent chance of finishing a full term. Bannon reportedly warned Trump that the biggest threat to Trump wasn’t impeachment but removed from office through the provisions of the 25^th amendment.

The amendment provides a way for the president to be removed by the Vice President and Congress or heads of executive departments for being unable to discharge their powers. Advisers in Trump’s case were concerned that his behavior could be the cause for removal. Trump reportedly didn’t know what the 25^th amendment was when Bannon spoke to him about it.

Sherman reported that other words used to describe the president from sources included “unstable,” “losing a step,” and “unraveling.”

One of the main concerns about Trump is his rhetoric towards North Korea, and his ability to call for the use of nuclear weapons. Several times Trump has threatened war with North Korea. He said during a speech to the United Nations that North Korea could face being totally destroyed, has said the nation could “fire and fury like the world has never seen” and on Saturday ominously said that diplomacy with Pyongyang was a waste and “only one thing will work.”

NBC News reported that over the summer Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called Trump a “moron,” after meeting with the Department of Defense. NBC News said that Trump asked for a 10-fold increase in nuclear weapons during the meeting, a claim the White House and Trump himself has denied.

“I know for a fact that every single day at the White House, it’s a situation of trying to contain him,” said Corker to the Times.
