Steven Tyler Apologizes To Nick Minaj For 'Cornfield' Comment Towards ‘American Idol’ Judge [VIDEO]
Steven Tyler has issued a public apology to new “American Idol” judge Nicki Minaj but insists that he is not a racist.
The female rapper confronted the Aerosmith frontman after she got wind that he had said, “I’m not sure how she would have judged Bob Dylan.”
"I apologize if it was taken wrong, Nicki," Tyler told Canada's "eTalk." "I'm the last thing on this planet as far as being a racist. I don't know where she got that out of me saying, 'I'm not sure how she would have judged Bob Dylan.' I was just saying that if Bob Dylan came on the show, he would've been thrown off. Maybe I spoke out of turn, but a racist I'm not, Nicki."
Tyler maintains that his comment was a criticism and not an attack, even though he said Minaj would have sent Dylan to a “cornfield.”
Minaj automatically assumed that Tyler was a little sour about the “Super Bass” singer being chosen as a judge for “American Idol” over him.
She quickly took to Twitter and erupted, posting multiple tweets about Tyler:
“Steven Tyler said I would have sent Bob Dylan to a cornfield??? Steven, you haven't seen me judge one single solitary contestant yet!”
“I understand you really wanted to keep your job but take that up with the producers. I haven't done anything to you. That's a racist comment”
“You assume that I wouldn't have liked Bob Dylan??? why? black? rapper? what? go fuck yourself and worry about yourself babe.”
“LOL lets make him a shirt that says "No Coloreds Allowed" then escort him down 2 Barbara Walters so he can tell how he was threatened w/guns”
“When Steven 1st went on Idol he was ridiculed by his peers & fans alike. Called a sell out. So what does he do? Ridicule the next judge.”
Tyler already found himself on Minaj’s bad side after he commented on her alleged feud with songbird Mariah Carey.
"I know that they've got something going on on the judges' panel, [and] it shouldn't be that, it should be just the opposite: They should have something going on, which is called 'camaraderie," Tyler told MTV News.
He continued to explain that she would probably kick Bob Dylan off the show.
“You just have to give your opinion ... These kids, they just got out of a car from the Midwest somewhere and they're in New York City, they're scared to death. If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield! Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips."
