‘Stinky Feet’ Burglar Caught Stealing When Hotel Owner Traces Foul Smell [Video]
A Chinese robber’s plan to steal from a hotel, located in the town of Wanzhi in Wuhu County, China went awry because he had “extremely stinky feet.”
Wuhu Donghu Police Station released a statement as well as the CCTV footage of the robbing attempt on Tuesday. The video shows the how the robber, who was identified only by his last name – Yang – was forced to abandon his plan of robbing the hotel midway.
In the clip, Yang could be seen removing his shoes before entering the hotel premises, so as to avoid making any sounds when he moved around the place. Holding his shoes in his hands, the burglar tiptoed into the lobby of the unnamed hotel.
However, before he could make it all the way across the lobby, the hotel owner, who was sitting in another room, came out to investigate the source of a foul odor that was later found to be wafting from Yang’s bare feet.
Realizing that he had missed his chance, Yang ran out of the lobby with the hotel owner chasing after him. He was caught by the hotel owner halfway through car parking lot.
The police were called and Yang was placed under arrest. During interrogation, he admitted to have stolen from several hotels on the same night because he was in need of money, Mail Online reported.
In a similar instance, another Chinese man, whose name was not revealed, was caught trying to steal from a house in the town of Lintou and arrested in March. The man, not unlike the recent case, made the mistake of taking off his shoes while entering the property so as to not leave any footprints behind, South China Morning Post reported.
While searching for valuables in the house, he heard footsteps and hid under the bed. However, when the homeowner made his way into the bedroom, he was greeted with a strong stench which led him straight to the burglar.
