Streaming Music, Movies This Christmas: Netflix, Amazon, Spotify, Slacker Radio
With Christmas only a few days away, everyone is getting in the holiday spirit, and the festive mood is reflected in the sort of music we listen to and the movies we watch. And if you are one of those who streams their audio/video content, then choosing the right service which is the best fir for your needs and your wallet is an important decision.
So if you don’t already have a subscription, here are a few popular services and plans you can pick from ahead of this Christmas.
Music streaming
Spotify offers 42 holiday playlists that you can choose from on the basis of genre and mood, as well as based on specific Christmas characters like Frosty, Rudolph and Santa. The Swedish company also allows offline streaming for paid subscriptions that cost $10 a month, and a joining incentive that bills subscribers at $1 a month for the first three months. There is also a free tier which has its own limitations.
Slacker Radio is another music streaming service, and at $4 a month, is perhaps the cheapest one available. However, unlike other streaming services, it works more like a radio broadcast, minus the ads. So there are 16 holiday-themed stations, as well as commentary, like you would expect on radio. It also has “Top 50” playlists featuring the top songs of the year from each genre. A $10 a month subscription option offers additional benefits like skipping to specific parts of songs and creation of playlists. Both paid version can be streamed offline, while the free version has ads and limited song skipping.
Video streaming
Netflix has just launched a limited offline streaming which has access to a number of Christmas classics, both Hollywood blockbusters and even a documentary about real men who work as professional Santas around the country. Its subscription plans starts at $8 a month, with the first month free.
Amazon Prime is actually more than just video streaming, since it offers music streaming also, along with free shipping and other deals for shopping at Amazon. For the holidays, it has music playlists designed for the season, as well as a whole bunch of movies to go with the Christmas spirit. Subscription currently costs $11 a month or $99 a year, and offers limited offline streaming as well.
