KEY POINTS

  • People want to make their relationships work
  • A study revealed that more than date nights, there is one way to keep a relationship healthy
  • It is getting some me-time

Many people want to find the right partner so that they could have a happy and lasting relationship. However, not many find their forever. According to the Centers and Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the rate of divorce is at 3.2 per 1,000 individuals. With such a staggering number, cynics now tend to say that half of the marriages end in divorce and would no longer go out of their way to make a relationship work.

If you are wondering about how to make good lasting relationships, then perhaps the result of the new study could help you keep your relationship with your spouse or partner healthy. The research suggests that having your personal me-time is far better at keeping the relationship healthy than date nights. It would seem that a happy and relaxed “you” translates into you becoming a better partner, resulting in a healthy relationship.

The study, as reported by NYPost, there were 2,000 Americans who took part in the poll, and 85% of them stated that enjoying their own me-time is the key to a healthy relationship. It also revealed that 41% of those who are in a relationship would simply leave their partners if they are not going to be given their own me-time. There are even 58% who say that they encourage their partners to spend time all by themselves.

The study was carried out by OnePoll, in collaboration with Elements Massage. They examined the routines and the self-care activities that are carried out by the average American. The result of their study revealed that every day, the ideal me-time is at 51 minutes. Every week that translates to about 6 hours.

Some of the me-times that Americans consider as important include reading books, exercising, listening to podcasts, hitting the couch, and watch a movie. As per the spokesperson of Elements Massage, many Americans already have so much stuff that's getting more leads to anxiety.

The study also laid down some of the triggers that make Americans crave for a time all by themselves. These triggers include stress at work, having a family in town, lack of sleep, and a whole lot more.

Suffice to say, spending some me-time can certainly benefit you. This helps you to de-stress, which also happens to produce positive results in your relationship.
