Successors emerge after Chris Lee’s downfall
The digital age does give anonymity but sadly it does leave a trail which can lead back accurately and reveal the tiniest details up to the last second. Christopher Lee, the disgraced New York Republican Representative was felled by the internet in one stroke when his online attempts to connect with a lady fell foul. He has resigned.
Gawker got hold of his flirtatious messages and a bare-chested photograph of himself to a woman on Craigslist. He has profusely apologized for his actions both to his family, friends and his constituents. He was serving his second two-year term in the House of Representatives, representing a district in western New York state.
His lapse has just come after one month of Republicans taking over control of the House of Representatives from President Barack Obama's fellow Democrats. Lee was a member of two powerful House committees -- the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee and the Financial Services Committee.
He was a rising star for the Republicans and liked by the Democrats who credited him for his business and political acumen.
But things are never still in politcs and already names of people to take his place are being thrown around. Republican names such as Assemblywoman Jane L. Corwin of Clarence, Sen. George D. Maziarz of Newfane, Assemblyman James P. Hayes, Sen. Michael H. Ranzenhofer and Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks, are making rounds.
Any new successor may also have to face the prospect of this seat going defunct as a population drain may cost Western New York one of its seats in Congress bu that does not seem to be deterring the contenders. Politcal climates keep changing.
Also the political bosses out there should consider taking down Lee’s website which the moment you open reads Sign up for E-mail updates from Congressman Chris Lee!
