Sugar Ray Leonard Relates Own Experience To Possible Mayweather vs. Pacquiao Rematch
Sugar Ray Leonard opened up about his own experience while discussing a possible Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao rematch.
The blockbuster bout between two of the greatest boxers of all time, Pacquiao and Mayweather, is already part of boxing’s history. However, the world seems to still be thirsty for a second showdown.
After Pacquiao’s victorious win against Keith Thurman, the rematch with Mayweather instantly became a hot topic in boxing. For weeks now, more and more boxing personalities, including hall of famers, are sharing their own opinions as to why the Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch should happen.
Just recently, TMZ Sports had a brief talk with boxing hall of famer Leonard to discuss his thoughts on Pacquiao and Mayweather’s talked-about rematch. According to Leonard, he would like to see the match because he believes that it would be entertaining to see two great fighters in their 40s sharing the boxing ring once again.
Leonard went on to share that he also returned to boxing when he was 40 and didn’t care who he would be facing at the time. But from the look on his face, the boxing legend seems to still be thrilled with what he had done even to this day.
“I mean yeah, it’s two guys in their 40’s. When I was 40, I came back, I don’t know who was against, I don’t care who was against,” Leonard revealed.
The boxing icon continued by insisting that the rematch “should be done.” “It could be a great fight. Put it this way, it should be done,” Leonard noted.
Regarded as one of the most skilled boxers in history, Leonard was asked if he believes that the fight will do boxing any good, considering the fact that both fighters are already aging. Leonard agreed that it could help boxing but in an unusual way. He later stated that people will be very interested to witness the fight regardless of what is at stake.
“In a crazy way, yeah. People will watch it,” Leonard said.
Although Leonard did not make a prediction, he admitted that Pacquiao did a great job in his most recent win.
“He looks phenomenal,” Leonard said.
When asked about Mayweather’s most recent fight, Leonard appeared to be trying to remember what happened in the said fight before laughing sarcastically.
The Mayweather rematch is one of the ideal fights the boxing world has been suggesting for Pacquiao. Despite the Filipino legend’s impressive display of boxing skills, many still believe that it would be best for Pacquiao to fight a veteran like Mayweather rather than be at risk facing another, much younger opponent.
Pacquiao has not shown any signs of slowing down lately. In fact, he even trained with his son Jimuel, and it appeared like he was trying to help his son master a lethal move in boxing.
