Summer Movies 2019: Watch Trailers For The 16 Biggest Releases Hitting Theaters
Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer, and that means the best movies are yet to come. Granted, the summer blockbusters clearly started early this year with both “Avengers: Endgame” and “John Wick 3.” Still, there are plenty of other big movies to look forward to in the coming months. Check out release dates and trailers below:
“Godzilla: King of the Monsters” (May 31) Godzilla fights Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah in this monster mash. Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown and Vera Farmiga star.
“Rocketman” (May 31) Taron Egerton plays Elton John in this biopic about the singer.
“Dark Phoenix” (June 7) Sophie Turner reprises her role as a young Jean Grey in this X-Men film. She is hit by a powerful force that heightens her powers, but it also makes her unstable. It’s being billed as the “culmination” of the entire X-Men franchise.
“The Secret Life of Pets 2” (June 7) The pets are back in this animated summer sequel. Patton Oswalt, Eric Stonestreet, Ellie Kemper and Jenny Slate return while Harrison Ford joins the cast in his first animated role.
“Men in Black: International” (June 14) Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth star in this attempt to reboot the alien-fighting franchise.
“Shaft” (June 14) Samuel L. Jackson returns to the “Shaft” series in this film, which is a sequel to the “Shaft” movie released in 2000. Now, Jackson’s character has an estranged son (Jesse T. Usher) who needs help after his best friend is murdered.
“Child’s Play” (June 21) A doll takes on a life of its own. Mark Hamill voices Chucky while Aubrey Plaza and Brian Tyree Henry star.
“Toy Story 4” (June 21) The toys head out on a road trip with Bonnie and a new toy, Forky (Tony Hale). Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Keanu Reeves and Christina Hendricks are also new additions to the franchise.
“Annabelle Comes Home” (June 26) A possessed doll is locked in a room full of artifacts and awakens other evil spirits.
“Yesterday” (June 28) A struggling musician wakes up to find that the Beatles never existed, and he is the only one who knows their songs.
“Spider-Man: Far From Home” (July 2) Peter Parker (Tom Holland) heads to Europe, but trouble follows. The movie will also handle the aftermath of “Avengers: Endgame.” Jake Gyllenhaal, Zendaya and Samuel L. Jackson star.
“The Lion King” (July 19) Beyoncé, Donald Glover and more provide the voices for this highly realistic CGI film.
“Once Upon A Time In…Hollywood” (July 26) Quentin Tarantino directs this flick about 1960s Hollywood. An aging actor (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his stunt double (Brad Pitt) try to revive their careers. It is the late Luke Perry’s final film. Margot Robbie and Dakota Fanning also star.
“Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” (Aug. 2) Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s characters begrudgingly team-up to take down a criminal (Idris Elba) who wants to launch a bio-threat to humanity. Vanessa Kirby also stars.
“Dora and the Lost City of Gold” (Aug. 9) Dora the Explorer (Isabela Moner) stars in a live-action movie.
“Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” (Aug. 9) Guillermo del Toro and director André Øvreda teamed up to bring this scary book to the big screen. In 1968, a girl wrote down all her secrets. When teenagers stumble upon her mansion, they get sucked into the story.
