Super Bowl 56 MVP: Long-Shot Bets For 2022 Award
The Super Bowl MVP usually goes to a quarterback, which is why Matthew Stafford and Joe Burrow are the overwhelming betting favorites to win the award for Super Bowl 56. If neither star has a standout performance in Sunday’s game between the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals, an unexpected candidate could emerge.
Here’s a look at the best long-shot bets to win the 2022 Super Bowl MVP award. Betting odds come from BetMGM.
Von Miller (+5000)
It was only six years ago when Miller won the Super Bowl 50 MVP award. The veteran linebacker isn’t the same dominant pass rusher that he was with the Denver Broncos, but he’s been rejuvenated since joining the Rams midseason. Before failing to register a sack in the NFC Championship Game, Miller had at least one sack in six straight contests.
Aaron Donald is +1200 for Super Bowl MVP and will draw plenty of attention from the Bengals’ offense. That could potentially free up Miller to get clean looks at Burrow. After being sacked a league-high 51 times in the regular season, Burrow has been sacked 12 times in the playoffs. Miller has a chance to find success against a porous Cincinnati offensive line and become the sixth player to win multiple Super Bowl MVP awards.
Evan McPherson (+10000)
It is true that a kicker has never won the Super Bowl MVP award, but there’s a first time for everything. If this year’s Super Bowl is a low-scoring game that comes down to a game-winning field goal, McPherson will at least be in the conversation for the award.
It would probably take a game-winning kick and multiple 50-yarders in order for the rookie to be the Super Bowl MVP. That’s exactly what McPherson did in the divisional round, going 4-4 on field goals with a kick from 52 yards as time expired. The Bengals have only scored five touchdowns in the playoffs. Cincinnati has relied on 12 McPherson field goals, indicating that he could be their main source of points in the Super Bowl.
Logan Wilson (+50000)
With the chance to make 500 times what you bet, Wilson might be worth a small wager for Super Bowl MVP. The linebacker has been the unsung hero of Cincinnati’s defense this postseason, leading all players with 30 total tackles. Wilson also has an interception and two passes defensed in the playoffs.
Wilson hasn’t only come on in the postseason. The 25-year-old had 100 tackles and four interceptions in the regular season. The Bengals’ defense overachieved in the AFC playoffs, holding the Las Vegas Raiders and Tennessee Titans to 35 combined points before shutting down Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the second half of the AFC Championship Game. If the defense leads the way Sunday, Wilson might very well be a viable candidate to garner MVP votes.
