‘Supergirl’ Season 2 Director Kevin Smith Talks Melissa Benoist And Chyler Leigh’s Dynamic On And Off Camera [PHOTO]
Kevin Smith loves the Danvers sisters!
In an Instagram post he wrote earlier today, Smith revealed why “Supergirl’s” Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Alex (Chyler Leigh) are his “favorite siblings on TV.”
“I love all the flying and punching of villains on #Supergirl… but I tune in for portrayals of sibling revelry so sincere and supportive that it really makes me feel like I missed out on something in life by not being a girl with a sister,” Smith wrote on the social networking site, alongside a photo of him with Benoist and Leigh.
Smith, who is currently directing Season 2, episode 9 of the CW series, also described what it’s like to personally see the dynamic between Benoist and Leigh both while filming and when the cameras stop rolling.
“As a huge fan of the show, seeing that dynamic on display both on & off camera yesterday was like drinking insanely good hot cocoa that warms your insides and fills you with joy,” Smith wrote. “Me-Me and Chy-Chy brought the major feels when we were rolling but between takes they’re both legit funny. It’s cool watching them go from goofing around before ‘Action’ is called to delivering dire dialogue about impending universal doom. Nice, nice kids.”
Smith’s directorial episode is entitled “Supergirl Lives,” which is actually a nod to the canceled “Superman Lives” movie that he wrote.
“I’m gonna cry talking about this,” Smith said on his YouTube show “Fatman on Batman” in August right after revealing the title of the episode he’s directing. “The name of the script I wrote back in 1996 was called ‘Superman Lives.’ That’s what they do over at that f— king Berlanti-verse. They make magic.”
Details about the plot of the episode are being kept under wraps, but Smith revealed on Instagram two weeks ago that the installment is “filled with deep-cuts characters” from some of his favorite stories in the DC Comics canon.
“Supergirl” airs every Monday at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
