‘Supergirl’ Spoilers: How Will Floriana Lima Be Written Out As Series Regular?
“Supergirl” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg has revealed how they’ve found a way to write out Maggie Sawyer (Floriana Lima) as a series regular character in Season 3 of the CW series.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kreisberg said that they turned to their own dating experiences for ideas on how they could give Maggie a proper sendoff while still honoring her love for Alex (Chyler Leigh).
“Taking a page out of some of our own personal dating history, we’ve come up with a story that we really feel like honors what’s come before them, and honors how much they love each other, how much they mean to each other, and how much they’ve changed each other’s lives,” Kreisberg said. “It’s some of the most emotional stuff we’ve ever done, and Floriana has been so good in these first five episodes. Episode 3 is all about Maggie and her dad, played by Carlos Bernard, and it’s some of the most heartbreaking stuff I’ve ever done on anything I’ve ever done.”
While Kreisberg described Lima’s Season 3 stint as “emotional” and “heartbreaking,” the executive producer made it clear that they are not killing off Maggie.
“Maggie does not die,” Kreisberg said. “I’m sure a lot of people are afraid of that. Maggie will continue to exist in the world and we hope that if the opportunity presents itself for her, that she’ll come back from time to time.”
Meanwhile, during a reunion panel for “Everwood” at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour earlier this month, Kreisberg’s fellow executive producer Greg Berlanti said that he doesn’t think Lima’s new status on the show would be noticeably felt by fans.“If any character people love is not there as much as they want them there, they’re going to be upset that they’re not,” Berlanti said (via Entertainment Weekly). “[So] I’d say we will use [Floriana] as much as we can.”
“I think [Floriana is] wonderful on the show, and she’s got some real ardent fans, and she should,” added Berlanti. “Of course we wanted more of her. But she’s got other things in the hopper and other things she wants to consider. We’d love to have her back as much as possible.”
“Supergirl” Season 3 premieres on Monday, Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
