‘Supernatural’ Fans Furious Over Season 15 Finale In English, ‘They Silenced Them’ Trends
The “Supernatural” Season 15 finale may have aired Thursday, but Spanish speakers are still watching the final episodes of the season and the latest episode to air in Spanish has left some fans furious with The CW.
After an episode airs in English, it typically takes a few weeks before it is translated for a Spanish broadcast. The delay has rarely created many problems.
For years, "Supernatural" viewers have been shipping a romance between Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Castiel (Misha Collins), but the two never began a relationship.
Two episodes before the finale, Castiel confessed his love for Dean, but Dean didn't say it back. In the English version of the episode, Castiel tells Dean that he loves him, and Dean replied, “Don’t do this, Cas,” as the angel is about to sacrifice himself.
However, in the Spanish version of the episode, Dean replied “Y yo a ti,” which translates into “And I you.”
Once “Supernatural” fans learned the English episode failed to reflect the same words as its Spanish counterpart, they began tweeting their disappointment with The CW.
“The fact season 15 started as a build-up to get Destiel endgame but something huge happened with the network and they had to change the script at the last minute makes me SICK #TheySilencedThem,” read one tweet.
Another tweet read, “Your hourly reminder that it’s NOT ABOUT A SHIP This is against censorship of queer identities and stories!!! Systematic mistreat of women, POC, people with disabilities, and other minorities! #TheySilencedThem.”
One viewer accused the network of ruining what could have been the greatest love story. “#TheySilencedThem they silenced 12 years of the greatest love of all time,” read the Twitter posting.
In the series finale, Dean died and went to heaven was essentially kept out of Dean’s happy ending.
At the end of "Supernatural," when Sam (Jared Padalecki) died of old age, he went to heaven and reunited with his brother. The ending left many viewers unsatisfied with the storyline.
