‘Supernatural’ Season 12 Spoilers: When Does The CW Series Return? EP Promises New Episodes Will Focus on Castiel’s Past
If the first eight episodes of “Supernatural” Season 12 didn’t have enough of angel Castiel/Cas (Misha Collins), The CW series is about to change that in the second half of the season.
When “Supernatural” returns on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017 in its new 8 p.m. timeslot, Cas is going to take center stage in the plot. “We have at least three really strong Castiel episodes coming up,” the show’s executive producer, Andrew Dabb, told TVLine, “The first, airing Feb. 2, presents a lost chapter of Castiel’s history.”
Dabb points out to the fact that fans know Castiel was watching Earth before he came down to rescue Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) in hell. In the back half of Season 12, the supernatural drama will explore that time of the angel’s life and showcase a lost story from his past – one that involves his old enemy, Lily Sunder, whose character will be played by “The Walking Dead” alum Alicia Witt.
Then, another episode focuses on Cas in a very different way. Fans of the angel should also tune in to episode 19 of this season.
Dabb also addressed concerns of giving Castiel and Crowley (Mark Sheppard) enough screen time in “Supernatural” this season after several new characters and story arcs had to be introduced. Mary Winchester (Samantha Smith), Dean and Sam’s (Jared Padalecki) mother, the British Men of Letters and Lucifer’s new vessel (Rick Springfield) had to be introduced in the first half of Season 12.
The producer admitted, “I think we did a fairly good job of keeping Crowley alive [and] keeping Castiel alive, but the new characters certainly ate up a little space. We had to cram a lot into those [eight episodes].”
With all the introductions and changing storylines out of the way, “Supernatural” can now tell Cas’ story and give other major characters more screen time.
