It's not uncommon for youngsters to take the scissors to their heads and lop off some hair. Who doesn't have an embarrassing photo from childhood showing a DIY haircut? It's almost a rite of passage.

But when one of the most recognizable half-pints in Hollywood does it, it could become a big trend.

Suri Cruise, known for her impeccable style and taste as a 7-year-old budding fashionista, clearly did her own new 'do. The adorable daughter of actress Katie Holmes and actor Tom Cruise was spotted over the Easter holiday weekend in New York City sporting an odd haircut, with really short, blunt, uneven bangs.

Even so, Suri still looked adorable, wearing a long-sleeved pink flowered dress over pink leggings with white stars and carrying a grey stuffed elephant. And of course she rocked the 'do -- no hiding behind a hat for her!

Suri's mom recently spoke to Allure magazine of her daughter's status as a mini fashion icon, saying, "She's got a great eye, she really does."

Holmes added that Suri frequently picks out her own outfits, often including high heels.

The 34-year-old "Dawson's Creek" actress also spoke about her rocky year, namely her super-public split from Cruise.

“A lot of people have gone through a lot of stuff,” said Holmes. "I hope this is a peaceful year for a lot of people in the world. When you look back on the last year, there were a lot of tragedies -- Hurricane Sandy, the Connecticut shooting. I just hope it’s a good year for everyone.”
