Surveillance Footage Shows Couple Letting Murder Suspect Into Their Apartment Before Incident
Authorities have released surveillance footage showing a couple letting an unidentified man into their apartment before they were killed. The person is now considered a suspect in the case.
Based on the video, Daniel Aaron, 31, and Kristen McDevitt, 30, buzzed the man into the Camden Vantage apartment complex on Jackson Street on Nov.22. He was then allowed to enter the couple's unit, where he stayed for about an hour and a half before emerging once again in the hallway.
Dressed in black, with a face mask covering his face, the man ran out with a safe in his hands at around 8:15 p.m.
Investigators shared the footage days after the murder and asked viewers to take notice of the man's "peculiar" walk. They also said he may be wearing a nose ring.
"We want individuals to pay attention to the way that this individual walks," Atlanta Police Homicide Commander Lt. Ralph Woolfolk said as per People. "We think that he has a very peculiar walk, it's very distinct."
As the investigation continues, the Atlanta Police Department is urging people to come forward with any valuable information they may have on the suspect.
"The person shown in this video is wanted in connection to a double murder that occurred at 180 Jackson St NE on 11/27/2021," the police department wrote on YouTube. "If you have any information on the identity of this person, please call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS(8477)."
On the day of the couple's murder, officers arrived at the apartment complex at around 9:45 p.m. to find Aaron and McDevitt with stab wounds.
Some people who were close to the couple said they couldn't believe such a tragedy would happen to the beloved pair, according to WSB-TV.
"I guess you can't trust nobody now," Saf Blade, a neighbor, said as per the outlet. I'm not too scared, but I still need to watch out, you know."
Ashley Francis, the owner of Turn Cycling Studio in Sandy Springs, said McDevitt was one of her clients but felt she was more like family.
"She's known as the girl with the colorful hair," Francis recalled. "It was vibrant colors, just like her personality, and every time she walked in the studio it was just a light and a breath of fresh air."
