A man reportedly died during penis enlargement surgery in Sweden, according to reports. Besides asthma, he had no significant health conditions.

The 30-year-old man died during routine plastic surgery, the Journal of Forensic Sciences reported Monday. The man, whose identity wasn't released, reportedly requested penile elongation and enlargement surgery at a private clinic in Stockholm. The operation involved the transferring of fat from the belly to the penis.

The elongation process was reportedly successful. However, when the enlargement began, during which time surgeons injected fat cells into the man's penis, his heart rate increased as his oxygen and blood pressured declined.

After 30 minutes, the man suffered a heart attack. He died within two hours, despite emergency treatment and CPR. According to the report, the incident is the first recorded death from penis enlargement surgery.

"This is the first described case where a seemingly simple and safe procedure of penis enlargement by autologous fat transfer caused sudden death in a healthy young man," the Journal reported. "Perhaps the risk of fat embolization is higher when pre-traumatized tissue is subjected to fat injection, like in this case, where a penis elongation by loosening of a penile ligament was performed before the fat injection."

A forensics team who examined the man determined he died from a lung embolism, which describes when fat that loosened during surgery travels to ruptured veins located in the lungs and causes blood vessels to break, the report concluded.

The procedure is otherwise considered safe, and the process is regularly used by plastic surgeons, according to the report.

"Autologous fat transfer, a procedure where fat is removed by liposuction and then injected back into the same patient's face, breasts, buttocks or penis, has become widely used by plastic surgeons," the report read. "It is generally considered a safe procedure, with complications consisting mainly of local deformities and, rarely, hematomas or infections."

Men can have a variety of penis enhancements performed by plastic surgeons, but they may be costly. Allure Plastic Surgery Center listed penis enhancement surgeries as costing between $2000-9000 on its website.
