Joshua Allen is spending the next year in jail.

On Thursday, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office confirmed that the “So You Think You Can Dance” Season 4 winner was sentenced to one year in county jail after pleading no contest to domestic violence. In addition, Allen, 28, was also sentenced to five years of formal probation and 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling, Los Angeles Daily News reported.

In April 2016, Allen assaulted and strangled his ex-girlfriend. Two months later, he attacked her again, causing her to run to a nearby coffee shop. “Allen chased her into the coffee shop and threw a glass vase at a woman who attempted to help the victim and attacked another man who also tried to intervene,” the prosecutors said.

Allen was not satisfied with attacking his ex, so he vandalized the coffee shop as well until he was finally restrained by some people in the establishment. After the incident, a criminal protective order was issued prohibiting the dancer from communicating with his girlfriend. However, he disobeyed it, People reported.

Allen was first charged with a felony and misdemeanor on July 14, 2016 for the two incidents of assault. Formally, the “Step Up 3D” star was convicted of one felony count for willfully injuring his former partner and another for assault with a deadly weapon, which was reportedly a glass vase.

The prosecutor for the case was Deputy D.A. Ranna Jahanshahi, Deadline noted. If Allen was convicted as charged, the maximum sentence was more than 10 years in state prison. The prosecutor set the dancer’s bail at $270,000, People reports.

Allen won the fourth season of “So You Think You Can Dance.” He was set to appear in “SYTYCD” Season 13 as a mentor last year, but he pulled out from the show, according to Entertainment Tonight.

His involvement in “So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation” did not push through and he was replaced by Marko Germar. Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe explained that Allen could not commit to the show due to “personal reasons,” so they had to find another talent to fill his position.
