Don’t walk into a Krispy Kreme talking like a swashbuckler or wearing a pirate costume on Thursday expecting a freebie. Despite the chain celebrating International Talk Like a Pirate Day in previous years, it appears locations will not be offering free food in honor of the event in 2019.

A Krispy Kreme customer service representative has confirmed that there are currently “no promotions” happening in their restaurants on Sept. 19.

While Krispy Kreme has been well-known for their Pirate Day celebrations in years past, this change isn’t a big one for the company as they have not participated in Talk Like a Pirate Day for two years. In 2017 and 2018, Krispy Kreme confirmed via Twitter that they would not be offering any holiday-related promotions.

Previously, customers were encouraged to wear pirate costumes, accessories, or talk like a pirate to secure up to one dozen free doughnuts from participating locations on International Talk Like a Pirate Day. The chain even once offered a specialty doughnut in honor of the occasion.

While the promotion isn’t happening this year, fans of the Krispy Kreme’s sweet treats can still secure a freebie. Those who sign up for Krispy Kreme Rewards will receive a coupon for a free doughnut of their choice. Those interested in applying can sign up here.
