Taye Diggs Debuts New Girlfriend, Amanza Smith Brown, At 2014 BET Awards

Taye Diggs has officially moved on from ex-wife Idina Menzel and made his first red carpet appearance with his new leading lady. The 43-year-old took girlfriend Amanza Smith Brown to the BET Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night, and could not stop smiling as they posed for photos. She looked lovely, wearing a white halter gown accessorized with a gold belt, as Diggs wore a dark grey suit.

Diggs and Menzel, a Broadway musical performer, seemed like a promising couple, after meeting on the set of the Broadway play "Rent" in 2005 and even sang a duet together during Menzel’s PBS concert special in 2012. Despite their potential, the couple announced in December that they were splitting after 10 years of marriage.

“Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have jointly decided to separate at this time," reps for the couple told People. "Their primary focus and concern is for their son. We ask that you respect their privacy during this time."

Diggs, 43, talked with Redbook about their split earlier this month, saying, "I'd be lying if I said there weren't times when I thought, Oh, man, people are going to trip out [if we split]. Maybe they thought it was cute that we met in 'Rent,'" he says. "It was easy for people to root for us," he says. "Right now, we're still trying to figure out a lot of stuff because we're on different coasts and our son is getting older."

Months later, however, Diggs seems more than happy to confirm his status with Brown, and a source tells People, “They are fully dating. They’re telling friends they’re in love.”
