Taylor Hawkins Cause Of Death Under Investigation After Drummer Complained About Chest Pain
The cause of death for Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins is under investigation after he complained about chest pain and later died in a hotel room in Bogata, Columbia.
On Saturday, a source from the Colombian attorney general’s office reportedly claimed an investigation has been launched into the drummer’s death.
“We have begun an investigation to establish the cause of death of the musician, but for now we don’t have any available information to share,” the insider said. “As the investigation advances, we will.”
Hawkins, who died on Friday, reportedly suffered from chest pains, which promoted the hotel staff to call emergency services. However, when the ambulance arrived, the singer was already dead.
Results from forensic lab tests to determine the cause of death are currently pending. Hawkins was 50.
Hawkins and the Foo Fighters were scheduled to headline Lollapalooza Brazil on Sunday night. Following his death, the Foo Fighters canceled their performance at the Estéreo Picnic festival and are expected to cancel the remaining shows for their South American tour.
In 1997, Hawkins joined the Foo Fighters, led by frontman Dave Grohl. Last year, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Although Hawkins is well-known as a member of the rock band, he previously used his drumming skills while working with Alanis Morissette and his own band.
Hawkins’ last performance took place at Lalapalooza in Argentina, five days before his death. Hawkins previously suffered from substance abuse issues and survived a 2001 heroin overdose.
The Foo Fighters confirmed Hawkins’ death on Friday in a statement. “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” the band said at the time.
“His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children, and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”
Hawkins is survived by his wife, Alison, and their three children, Oliver, Annabelle, and Everleigh.
