Taylor Swift is one of the most talented musicians in the world right now and she just keeps on getting better day by day. After receiving the Billboard’s Women of the Decade award last year, the acclaimed singer has added one more feather to her cap.
Swift has been named the best-selling international artist of 2019 by the International Federation of Phonographic Industry (IFPI), an organization that keeps track of the music industry across the globe. The organization ranks the consumption of music for every artist that includes the sales of digital albums, physical albums, singles, and streaming services.
This is the second time Swift nabbed the numero uno position in the coveted list. In 2014, the “Bad Blood” hitmaker topped the list when her blockbuster album “1989” came out while this year’s award was given for her latest album “Lover.” Three singles of the album – “Me!,” “You Need To Calm Down,” and “Lover” – debuted at number one on the global charts of Spotify.
Speaking about Swift’s amazing year and her number one rank, the chief of executive of IFPI, Francis Moore, congratulated the “Delicate” singer for securing the first place and called her the “epitome” of a global star. Moore further stated that Swift continues to create amazing music and maintains a healthy relationship with her fanbase. But most importantly, he thinks that Swift always manages to “evolve” herself with every album that she releases. He concluded by saying that it is truly an honor to present the Global Recording Artist of the Year award to Swift.
“Taylor Swift is the epitome of a truly global star. It is a pleasure to be able to present her with the Global Recording Artist of the Year award for the second time,” Moore said.
The Grammy-winning artist joins the list of elite musicians who have received the prestigious award. The list includes the likes of One Direction (2013), Adele (2015), and Drake (2016 and 2018).
Second place went to Ed Sheeran, making his third consecutive appearance on the list. In 2017, he was named the best-selling international artist of the year. The third position went to Post Malone, followed by Billie Eilish and legendary band Queen on fourth and fifth, respectively.
Other names on the list include the likes of Ariana Grande, BTS, Drake, Lady Gaga, and The Beatles.
