Teacher Had Sex With Teen Student, Confronted By Own Children About 'Relationship With Minor'

A New Jersey substitute teacher was busted for having sex with a teen student after her children confronted her about it last month.

According to the court documents released Wednesday, investigation began after the father of 45-year-old Elyes Castillo’s children contacted the Division of Child Protection and Permanency last month and alleged that she had abused their kids after they told her they were disgusted by “her relationship with a minor.”

Following the complaint, investigators interviewed the 14-year-old victim who told them that he first met Castillo in 2018 after which they got into a relationship and “made love.” The teen told the investigators that he and Castillo had sexual encounters multiple times at her home and that the last encounter occurred on Aug. 2. Following the statement, Castillo was taken into custody Aug. 29. The documents stated that the accused had not informed the victim that she had a venereal disease.

Castillo appeared in court Wednesday and was charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. During the hearing, Castillo hung her head and did not utter a word. Hudson County Superior Court Judge Paul DePascale ordered Castillo released until her trial but asked her to not be in contact with juveniles, with the exception of her two children, who are 13 and 14 years old.

“I think it’s reasonable under the circumstances to bar her from having any contact with children under the age of 18,” DePascale said. The case was ongoing.

The incident comes days after a Wisconsin teacher was charged with sexual misconduct for having sex with a teen student and sending him explicit videos through Snapchat. The criminal complaint stated that the investigation against 23-year-old Talia Jo Warner began in January this year after the school district was informed about it by a teacher and some students. Investigation revealed that Warner sent explicit photos and videos to the 15-year-old student between October and December 2018, after which they indulged in two sexual encounters outside of school.
