Teacher Pours Hot Wax On Grade 3 Student For Creating Ruckus In Class, Boy Suffers Burns
A teacher poured hot wax on a grade three student after he created a ruckus in the class. The incident took place in a residential school in the western Indian state of Maharashtra last week.
Police said the incident came to light Sunday when the mother of the student went to meet him and saw burn injuries on his hands. The unidentified boy told his mother that his teacher, identified as Isabelle Gonzalves, had poured hot wax on him as a punishment for creating ruckus in the class.
Confirming the same, a police officer said, “The child was first beaten and then inflicted with dripping hot wax on Friday (Dec. 20).”
The mother then took the boy home and filed a police complaint Monday.
“We registered an FIR December 23 when the complainant approached us in the matter. We have reached out to the school and the teacher for investigation as well,” another police officer said, adding that, “We are investigating the case and will take necessary action.”
In a similar incident in the Indian city of Gurugram in December last year, a school teacher was caught on camera taping the mouths of two four-year-old students to silence them during a class. The parents of the student filed a complaint following which the teacher was suspended.
