Teacher Tapes Students' Mouths To Silence Them During Class [Video]
A school teacher who reportedly taped the mouths of two four-year-old students to keep them quiet during a class in the Indian city of Gurugram was suspended by the school management Saturday.
The incident, which took place in October, came to light recently after a video of the teacher putting adhesive tape across the mouths of two students, a boy and a girl, became viral on social media.
The parents of the two students filed a complaint about the teacher's action with the school management, who immediately acted and suspended the female teacher, Tribune India reported. The teacher, on the other hand, claimed the students were disturbing the entire class and also used filthy language sometimes.
“On the complaint of students’ parents, we had taken strict action and suspended the teacher,” Gururaj, the principal, said, Scroll reported.
In a similar incident last month, a special education teacher was suspended after a video of her allegedly spitting on a pupil surfaced. The video of the incident at Grand Prairie High School in Texas showed the female teacher approaching the pupils before allegedly spitting at one of them.
The school district identified the teacher as Tiffany White after they learned about the incident when a student informed a staff member about it.
"The teacher was immediately placed on administrative leave and will not be returning to the classroom. The safety and dignity of our students is paramount to providing a nurturing environment where students can learn and be successful,” the district said in a written statement, Dallas News reported.
School District spokesman Sam Buchmeyer said they spoke to the parents of the child about the incident. The parents did not file charges against the teacher.
“To me being the parent of a special needs son, I have an autistic son who is in the 7th grade, any parent who is taking care of or working with those children. You have to have patience and understanding and to spit on them would portray the wrong type of behavior to that individual,” Doris Brown, a parent said.
“I think that person should be removed from that position and they need to offer more training on how to communicate and display appropriate behavior to those type of children,” she added.
