Teen Allegedly Murders Pregnant Teacher To Keep Their Illicit Relationship From Being Exposed
A 17-year-old boy from India was arrested for allegedly murdering his teacher to keep their illicit relationship under the wraps.
The victim was five months pregnant when the high schooler allegedly killed her by stabbing her multiple times with a sharp-edged weapon. The incident was reported in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Supriya Verma, 35, worked as a teacher at a primary school and was living with her husband and mother when the murder took place, ANI reported. Her husband was also employed as a teacher.
Cops said Verma had a relationship with the teenage boy, who was living in her area. The teenager reportedly wanted to put an end to their relationship, but the woman was adamant about continuing the affair.
“The arrested boy was in a relationship with the victim, a teacher. He wanted to get out of the relationship as he was scared of getting exposed,” a senior officer named AP Singh said, according to the outlet. “The teacher used to threaten him by making insulting revelations about him. That is why he murdered her.”
The teacher, five months into her pregnancy, was slain after the minor entered her house while she was alone on June 1. The boy broke into a cupboard in the victim's room and fled with around $632 (Rs 50,000) to make it look like Verma was the victim of a robbery-related incident, according to The Times of India.
"Fearing ill-repute and opposition from his family, the minor boy wanted to come out of the relationship he had with that teacher, but the woman was insistent to continue it," a senior police officer said, according to the outlet. "He entered the house and killed the teacher with a sharp-edged rod,” the officer went on to say.
Investigators said they sieved through surveillance footage and found a grainy visual of the suspect wearing a t-shirt with a noticeable brand name embossed on the back. Police then tracked down all the online deliveries of the brand in the city and “connected the dots to arrive at the boy's door,” an official said.
The teenager was arrested Sunday, over a month after the teacher’s slaying.
