An 18-year-old Pennsylvania State University student is facing several charges after allegedly attempting to sexually assault another student at the school's flagship campus last month.
The suspect was identified as Bradley M. Walmer, of Berks County, Pennsylvania.
Walmer was accused of disrobing a woman, groping her and kissing her against her will in a residence hall, the Centre Daily Times reported, citing an affidavit of probable cause.
The teen also attempted to have sexual intercourse with the woman, whose name and age were not disclosed, university police alleged in the affidavit.
A Timely Warning issued by university police after the allegations were reported revealed that the alleged incident occurred at 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 12 and that the suspect was known to the woman. The alleged victim told university police the alleged assault occurred in a residence hall room located in the East Halls complex, which is in the northeastern portion of the Penn State main campus, University Park.
The alleged victim was left with scratches, bruises and red marks on her chest, back and hip, according to authorities.
Walmer told investigators that he was intoxicated and had consumed multiple shots of liquor and cans of beer throughout the night, police wrote.
A second woman, whose name and connection to the suspect or victim were not disclosed, told police Walmer was slurring his words and his eyes were "partially closed," according to the affidavit.
It was not mentioned if Walmer had a defense lawyer to speak on his behalf.
The 18-year-old was charged with one felony count of attempted sexual assault, one summary count of harassment and one misdemeanor count each of indecent assault and simple assault.
Walmer was arraigned Friday by District Judge Steven Lachman. The teen’s bail was set at 5% of $20,000. He did not post bail and is currently detained at the Centre County Correctional Facility.
Walmer’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 6.
This comes weeks after a Port Matilda, Pennsylvania, man pleaded guilty to raping four Penn State students over seven years.
Jeffrey Fields, 37, pleaded guilty to 17 of his 19 charges, including felony rape and sexual assault of four victims, according to another Centre Daily Times report. He could face decades in state prison.
Fields raped the women in August 2010, January and April 2011, and July 2017.
