A teenage girl in Brazil who wanted to know if she had what it took to be a psychopathic killer killed an unsuspecting 18-year-old with the help of her friends in August.
Raissa Nunes Borges, 19, Jeferson Cavalcante Rodrigues, 22, Enzo Jacomini Carneiro Matos, 18, and a 16-year-old teenager who has not been named were arrested Wednesday for the murder of Ariane Barbara Laureano de Oliveira in the Brazilian city of Goiania on Aug. 24, local news outlet G1 reported. Police said the group confessed to the crime.
Investigators said the victim was chosen by the group because she was small and petite and unlikely to put up much of a fight. The one who wanted to know if she could become a psychopath and had come up with the plan was Borges.
Local police believe that the group carefully planned the murder and had come up with a list of potential victims.
The group arranged to meet with the victim in Goiania on Aug. 24. Ariane reportedly sent her mother an audio message that night telling her that she was out with friends but would be home soon, but her family said she vanished after that night.
The 18-year-old girl's body was found seven days later in nearby woods with three stab wounds and signs of strangulation.
Police said that the suspects' plan was for Borges to kill the teenager to test if she really did have psychopathic tendencies or not, but the others participated in the murder when the victim put up too much of a struggle.
According to local police chief Marcos de Oliveira Gomes, the group had planned to start the attack in their car when a specific song they chose beforehand played at a specific moment in the conversation between them. The arrangement was that when one of the others clicked their fingers, Borges would kill the victim.
Borges tried to strangle Ariane but failed. One of her friends assisted her until the victim passed out. However, Ariane was still breathing, so they decided to stab her three times to make sure she was dead. When they confirmed that she was dead, the suspects dumped the body of Ariane in the woods before speeding off.
Police have since examined the car and found that the bin bags used to hide the body were already in the boot when the murder was carried out.
It is not clear which suspects did the stabbing or in what order. Police said they are now in the process of collecting new statements to further detail the participation of each person involved in the murder.
Police also seized the blood-stained knife believed to have been used in the crime.
