A Georgia man wanted in connection with the death of a 1-year-old boy was found hiding under a bed in his mother's house by the police.
The Bibb County Sheriff arrested Jamarius Dixon, 19, from Sandersville on Wednesday, The Macon Telegraph reported.
The arrest comes a week after toddler Jayce Gibson was found in an unresponsive state and taken to the Coliseum Northside Hospital by his mother and Dixon, who was described as the woman's "roommate/boyfriend." The child reportedly suffered head trauma, a post by the Sheriff's Office on Facebook said.
"After arriving at the hospital emergency room, the infant was pronounced deceased. The cause of death could not be determined at that time, and an autopsy was scheduled for March 1, at the G.B.I. Medical Examiner’s Office. On Monday, Bibb County Sheriff’s Office investigators were notified of the results from the preliminary examination. The results showed that Jayce did not die of natural causes," the Facebook post added.
An investigation followed, which identified Dixon, as the suspect. On Wednesday, the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office located the man at his mother's residence. An officer with the Task Force said Dixon was hiding under a bed when he was apprehended, The Macon Telegraph reported.
A former basketball player, Dixon has been held in the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, without bond. He has been charged with murder and cruelty to children in the first degree.
The post added the investigation is ongoing and no further information can be released at present. The Sheriff's Office also requested anyone with information to contact the Bibb Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500, or call Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68 CRIME.
In a similar incident, a man was arrested in Utah for stabbing his toddler daughter thinking his wife was in bed with another person. The Provo Police Department was told about the incident by the mother of the toddler who said she was rushing the child to the hospital. Investigation revealed the toddler’s father had been drinking the whole night before he picked up a quarrel with his wife. The man, who went into the bedroom, noticed pillows and blankets stacked up beside her on the bed. Assuming that another person was sleeping beside his wife, he pulled out a knife and stabbed the sheets. The toddler, who was underneath the sheets, suffered injuries.
