Teen Who Was Raped By Lover Delivers Baby On Her Own By Watching YouTube Videos

A teen girl in India who was allegedly raped and impregnated by her lover delivered a baby on her own with the help of YouTube videos.

The unidentified 17-year-old girl from Malappuram, in the southern Indian state of Kerala, delivered a baby boy and cut the umbilical cord after watching YouTube videos on Oct. 20. Police said she did not get any external help and her family was unaware of her pregnancy, Hindustan Times reported.

Based on the girl's statement, police arrested her 21-year-old neighbor on charges of rape and child sexual abuse. Police also found out that it was the suspect who advised her to follow YouTube videos.

"He also advised the girl to turn to YouTube to learn about cutting the umbilical cord," a police officer said, Indian Express reported.

The teen's mother was visually challenged and her father, who worked as a security guard, was at work at the time. The girl did not come out of her room for two days after the delivery. The mother thought she was attending online classes, officials said.

The parents came to know about the delivery two days later when they heard the infant's cries. The girl had developed some infections by then. Both the teen and her baby were then taken to a hospital.

The girl is recovering from infections and the child is safe, police said.

Though the teen was reportedly in a romantic relationship with the suspect, police said it was a case of rape as she is a minor.

In a similar incident, a 24-year-old woman in India allegedly underwent a self-induced abortion at home after watching YouTube videos. The unidentified woman was reportedly raped multiple times and impregnated by her boyfriend. The woman used kitchen utensils to perform the abortion in the seventh month of her pregnancy and her boyfriend reportedly buried the stillborn fetus. The woman's boyfriend, Sohail Khan, was arrested on charges of rape.
