A 12-year-old boy was stripped down to his underwear and beaten with a belt Monday in Chadderton, Oldham in England, and the incident was posted on Snapchat.

The unidentified victim was walking along Under Lane, off Drury Lane, at night when a group of teenagers, reportedly aged between 15 and 17, surrounded him and proceeded to strip him.

“We received a report at 8.20 p.m. [local time, 3:20 p.m. EDT] that a 12-year-old boy had been walking with friends on Drury Lane in Chadderton when he was assaulted by a large group of male youths,” a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) told Manchester Evening News.

The mother of the victim, who asked not to be named, said her son was on his way to borrow a charger from a friend when the attack took place.

“I just want them caught,” she said. “This group are known for causing trouble. They did this to my son on Monday night and I’m told that someone else was mugged the night after.”

After the attackers stole his trainers, t-shirt, phone, chain and bracelet, the victim was left standing in his boxers. The boy was then severely beaten as one of the attackers recorded the incident and posted it on Snapchat.

“They knocked him to the floor before kicking him and hitting him with a belt,” the police said. “They also stole items from him.”

A copy of the Snapchat video, which the victim’s mother claimed was too disturbing to be released for public viewing, was handed over to the police for investigation.

She added although her son received injuries to his head and side where he was struck with the belt, he did not require treatment.

The suspected attackers are yet to be caught by the police.

The mother has requested for public assistance, appealing to anyone with any information regarding the incident to contact with the police. One can get in touch with GMP by dialing 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Snapchat, an app where pictures and videos are available for a short time before they become inaccessible, has been used as a medium to post gruesome, often illegal content many a times in the past.

In June, 20-year-old Fatima Khan, was convicted after she recorded her boyfriend, Khaleed Safi, dying of fatal stab wounds on the street in North Acton, London, and posted the video on Snapchat with the message, “This is what happens when you f--k with me," Metro reported.

She was charged with murder, and alternative counts of manslaughter and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm. The court found her guilty of arranging Safi’s murder by inviting a man called Raza Khan, “a rival for her affections,” to kill him.

Fatima kept denying having any role in the murder, saying she was “ashamed” of the video.
