Detective Bird questions the production team on Jane’s cable cop show in this week’s episode of “Ten Days in the Valley.”

According to the synopsis for Season 1, episode 3 of the ABC series, Bird (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) conducts an investigation at Jane’s (Kyra Sedgwick) workplace after finding out that the video of Lake (Abigail Pniowsky) she received at the end of last episode was sent from the studio she’s working at.

“My colleagues and I are gonna be conducting an investigation here today,” Bird declares upon his arrival at the studio in the trailer for the episode.

The detective then sits down with Matt (Malcolm-Jamal Warner), the head writer on Jane’s (Sedgwick) TV series, and asks him: “Let’s just say Jane doesn’t come back [to the show]. You would take over her role?”

While it’s unclear whether Matt is involved in Lake’s disappearance, it’s pretty evident in the promo clip that he’s hiding something from everyone.

Also in the trailer, Casey (Emily Kinney) finally visits the police station to give her statement but is caught off guard when Bird asks her about her relationship with Jane’s ex Pete (Kick Gurry). “Did your boss’ ex proposition you? Or did you proposition your boss’ ex?” the detective asks Jane’s assistant.

As for what to expect from Pete in the episode, Lake’s dad has a major freakout. But is it because of anguish or is it because he’s secretly guilty of her Lake’s disappearance? In the trailer, Pete assaults a guy who affixes an ad on top of Lake’s missing poster.

Elsewhere in the upcoming episode, Bird finds out that a drug dealer came to Jane’s house the night Lake went missing. In a sneak peek from the episode, Bird confronts Jane about what he discovered, but Jane says that the drug dealer doesn’t have to do with the case.

“How often does he visit?” Bird asks Jane of the drug dealer.

“It doesn’t matter because he’s got nothing to do with it,” Jane replies.

“When you decide that, it’s called obstruction,” the detective explains. “I’m gonna arrest you for it.”

When Jane insists that it’s Pete who took their daughter, Bird says that Jane’s little game is over. “See, this is what you’re really afraid of, right? What people think of you? What kind of mother you are? What kind of person you are? You know what? It’s all done now,” the cop says. “We’re gonna get it all on record. And you can stop running everyone around. You start being straight.”

Jane begs Bird to listen to her, but the detective reminds her: “I don’t work for you. I work for your daughter.”
