A woman was arrested and charged with child abuse Saturday after police found her missing teenage daughter hiding under her home in Etowah, Tennessee.

According to the Etowah Police Department, officers had responded to a home May 13 regarding a missing teenage girl.

The girl’s mother, identified as Anna Everhart, told officers the teen was missing since 9 a.m. local time (10 a.m. EDT) that morning. The woman was trying to find her daughter, and while searching for her found the back door of the home open, after which she contacted the police for help.

Police announced they had safely located the girl Friday night. They mentioned the teen was found hiding in a crawl space beneath the home.

Following the incident, Everhart was arrested Saturday morning and was charged with aggravated domestic assault, aggravated child abuse, along with several counts of child abuse, child neglect, and child endangerment.

She was currently being held at McMinn County Jail and her bond was set at $50,000. According to the police, she was expected to face further charges as they continue to investigate the case.

No further information was revealed as the case was still under investigation.

In a similar incident, a North Carolina woman, identified as 22-year-old Margaritta Gabriela Deaton, was arrested and charged with child abuse after her five-month-old was found alone at home with several injuries. After conducting a medical examination, it was found the baby had suffered multiple broken ribs, a fractured skull, a spiral fracture in her upper left arm, and a previously broken wrist.

In another incident, a 53-year-old woman, identified as Esmeralda Lira and her boyfriend were arrested after her six-year-old grandson was found tied up in a shed In Texas. Officers responded to a call after receiving an anonymous tip and found the boy inside the shed with his hands tied behind his back. The woman’s boyfriend stated the boy had been locked inside the shed for at least two weeks as punishment for stealing food. Following the incident, the boy, and his two siblings were placed in foster care.
