Teresa Giudice’s fiancé Luis “Louie” Ruelas is in legal trouble a week after he and the reality star showed off their lavish celebration for their first anniversary as a couple.
Page Six exclusively revealed Tuesday that the 46-year-old businessman was facing three complaints about alleged illegal business practices.
The outlet obtained copies of the three complaints filed against Ruelas and his company, Digital Media Solutions, throughout 2021. All of them accused Giudice’s boyfriend and his digital advertising firm of violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).
The federal statute enacted in 1991 safeguards consumer privacy by restricting telemarketing communications via voice calls, SMS, texts and fax without customer consent. The Federal Communications Commission gives a detailed explanation of the act on its website.
One of the complaints filed on Jan. 1, 2021, in Florida alleged that the New Jersey-based businessman’s company engaged in “unsolicited text messaging with no regard for consumers’ privacy rights.”
The complaint included details about how the firm solicited goods and services such as “free months of insurance” and car deals, inconveniencing and disrupting the daily life of the plaintiff named Graham Hooper.
The complaint was part of a class-action lawsuit seeking a minimum of $500 in damages for each violation of the company. However, Hooper voluntarily terminated the complaint in October 2021.
Another complaint filed by a woman named Kelly Schultz in Florida on July 27, 2021, said Ruelas’ company placed cold calls and sent unsolicited telemarketing texts with web links to products and services, including one that provided “auto insurance quotes.” But the case was voluntarily dismissed in March 2022.
Filed in California in December 2021, the third complaint from a man named Aaron L. Johnson alleged that he had received calls from the company featuring “artificial or prerecorded voice,” causing him a “great deal of frustration and inconvenience.”
The third complaint has not been dismissed, but Ruelas’ digital advertising company denied Johnson’s allegations in a response filed on Feb. 7, 2022.
Aside from the complaints, Digital Media Solutions was also accused of “false advertisements” and “copyright infringements” by Insurance King Agency last year. Even though the company denied the allegations in October, the case remains open.
The news about the three complaints came a week after Ruelas and the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star, 49, celebrated their first year as a couple lavishly on the TV show.
The two started dating in July 2020. When they celebrated their first relationship milestone last year, the camera crew filmed the special moment, and it was featured in the episode that aired last week.
In a post shared by Giudice on her Instagram, she showed off a series of snaps taken from the dreamy date they had on Yacht Justine in New York City.
“We are most alive when we’re in love. Thank you to my love @louiearuelas” for our amazing 1 year anniversary date,” she wrote in the caption.
Both Ruelas and Giudice have yet to react to the legal complaints.
