  • A Tesla Model 3 family sedan takes on a Lamborghini Huracán sports car in two 1/2 mile races
  • The Huracán shows-up for the second race in expensive racing tires and special racing fuel
  • The Tesla Model 3 sedan won the first race, so the Lamborghini forced a rematch

Debuting worldwide in 2014, the Lamborghini Huracán two-door sports car remains an angry and powerful beast capable of sprinting from 0 to 97 km/h (0 to 60 mph) in about 2.5 seconds. Seems like a worthy opponent for an entry-level, dual-motor Tesla Model 3 Performance family sedan that takes 3.1 seconds to get there. How about a race?

Well, two guys did just that and, in the usual fashion, posted video and race commentary of this short drag race on YouTube. By the way, a Lamborghini Performante became the fastest production car ever to lap the Nürburgring race track in Germany. This historic event occurred in October 2016.

What we've got are two races. The first was won hands down by the Tesla Model 3. The owner of the Huracán asked for a rematch, got it, and showed how deep his moneyed pockets were by heavily modifying this racing machine to win this grudge match.

Current Huracán prices range from $390,000 to $532,635 for the Huracan LP 580-2 (RWD) and Huracan Performante Spyder, respectively. The Tesla Model 3 has a starting price of $36,000, a tenth of the cheapest Huracán.

The owner of the Model 3 in the video said he won the first race (1/2 mile distance) against the same Huracán because of Tesla's legendary torque that shoots the machine off a start line like a bullet. No messing with gears like in gas guzzlers.

But let's read the Tesla owner's account of the grudge match as explained on his Youtube video:

"A while back I raced Lamborghini Huracan and won when I got him off of the line. Many people couldn't believe it and were talking a lot of trash about the Huracan owner. It was always good fun between him and I. He asked for a rematch. So I signed up for the 1/2 mile event again so we could ruin them again.

"This time he was on better tires (R888s I think) and running race fuel. I removed my back seat ... We got a clean race this time. The margin of victory for this race was about 1.5 car lengths."

The Toyo Proxes R888 is a competition and streetable track tire made for high performance driving. It has superior traction capability for excellent handling in races. They're priced as high as $500 each. The race fuel was likely 110 octane.

Lamborghini Huracan named the fastest production car.
