Tesla Pickup Release: Rival Ford F-150 Could Beat Elon Musk's Company On Launch
Elon Musk’s Tesla pickup, which some now refers to as the Tesla Model B, is currently the benchmark when it comes to choices of an electric utility vehicle.
The Tesla pickup has definitely set the bar high when it comes to features and functions of how an EV pickup should be. The Model B is expected to be a vehicle of power as Musk already claimed that it will have a total towing capacity of 300,000 pounds. This is impressive, especially when compared to other EV pickups that are expected to be released such as the Rivian pickup which can tow 11,000 pounds.
The Tesla pickup is also expected to run for 500 miles on a full charge, something that could appeal to very traditional pickup owners like farm owners who travel far and would need a reliable vehicle to go the extra mile.
Next, the Tesla pickup could have three kinds of trims in terms of design. This includes the base model, a middle tier and a performance model. The base model is expected to have a price tag of around $49,000 to $50,000 - a competitive option compared to other brands that are releasing their own version of the utility EV.
Now Tesla is expected to introduce the pickup in the next few months, definitely before the year ends and start production in 2020 before finally putting it on sale by 2021. Based on the timeline, Tesla will be the first one to actually introduce an electric pickup in the market which is a big advantage in terms of sales and impact.
The novelty of the electric vehicle is also significant because it would change a market that’s basically being patronized by customers that are described as very traditional. Musk’s Tesla pickup has been described as very futuristic and “cyberpunk” which is an exciting prospect to consider.
However, new information now reveals that Ford’s very own electric F-150, which many believe to be released by 2022, might actually make an earlier appearance giving Tesla a run for its money. In a report, Ford’s Darren Palmer said that the “battery Ford F150 will come before 2022.”
With the new timeline, it would be interesting to see which of the two electric vehicles could actually come out with an electric pickup first.
