Thandie Newton is feeling grateful for the support she received after her recent interview in which she called out Tom Cruise for his “dominant” behavior on the set of “Mission: Impossible II.” The actress said that she has “nothing to lose” and so she will continue to speak the truth.

The 47-year-old actress recently opened up to Variety about her time in Hollywood and how she was pleasantly surprised by the kind of support she got after her dialogue with Vulture. Newton thought she would be “in trouble” with everything that she said in her previous interview.

“I was surprised by the appreciation I had got. I thought that I would be in trouble because that’s kind of what I am used to,” Variety quoted Newton, as saying.

The “2012” star also explained that speaking the truth has always been good for her and has “benefited” her more than being silenced. She also opined that her comments showed the “reality of what people face.”

“I just happened to be an older woman who has recognized that knowing the truth and speaking the truth has benefited me a hell of a lot more than being silenced or seeing people silenced around. And I have nothing to lose. I have nothing to lose because I could just then not get hired, which is kind of normal for people in my generation anyway,” Newton said.

“So I’ve got nothing to lose and I would rather go out using this moment. It’s not about confessionalism, it’s not even about my confessions. It’s about that this is the reality of what people face,” she added.

The Emmy award-winning actress also claimed that her interview with Vulture made certain people “frightened.”

When asked if she has a chance of winning an Emmy this year, Newton said she does not have a chance of winning because Meryl Streep is nominated in the same category this year for her role in HBO’s blockbuster series “Big Little Lies.”

“Oh, come on — Meryl Streep! All I’m going to say is [explicit] Meryl Streep! She needs a whole award ceremony just for her!” Newton said in the interview.

Newton is nominated for her portrayal of Maeve Millay on HBO’s “Westworld.”
