These Are IMDb's Top 10 Stars of 2016
As 2016 comes to an end, IMDb released the list of top 10 stars of the year.
The list includes Academy Award winners and actors in movies Batman V Superman, The Revenant, The Danish Girl and The Girl on the Train.
This year, the No. 1 top star on the list for 2016 was Margot Robbie, IMDb says. The Australian actress was in numerous movies this year including Suicide Squad, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and Legend of Tarzan.
The site looked at the top 10 celebrities who consistently ranked the highest on the IMDb weekly STARmeter chart throughout 2016. The STARmeter rankings are based on IMDb pageviews. The site gets over 250 million unique monthly visitors.
Here are 2016’s top ten stars:
10. Leonardo DiCaprio
DiCaprio had a good year. He finally won a Best Actor Oscar for his role in The Revenant. DiCaprio closed 2016 with Before the Flood, a documentary he produced about global warming.
9. Haley Bennett
Bennett, a young Florida native, acted in movies Hardcore Henry, The Magnificent Seven and as Megan Hipwell in The Girl on the Train. She also portrays young actress Mamie Murphy in Rules Don't Apply and Ellie Briess in A Kind of Murder.
8. Daisy Ridley
Ridley launched her career with her role as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She has movies lined up for next year, including Murder on the Orient Express and her return for Star Wars Episode VIII in December.
7. Alicia Vikander
Vikander won an Academy Award for her role in The Danish Girl, in which she portrayed painter Gerda Wegener. This year she starred opposite Matt Damon in Jason Bourne and as Michael Fassbender’s love interest in The Light Between Oceans. She was named the newest Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, which will hit theatres in 2018.
6. Gal Gadot
Gadot played Wonder Woman in the comic book flick Batman v Superman. She was also in Keeping Up With the Joneses, Triple 9 and Criminal.
5. Morena Baccarin
Baccari, a Brazilian native, appeared in comic book flick Deadpool and as Dr. Leslie Tompkins on FOX's Gotham. The actress and her Gotham co-star Ben McKenzie welcomed their first child in March.
4. Tom Hardy
Hardy, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in The Revenant, is also a top star this year. The British actor was in Season 5 of Peaky Blinders, a TV crime-drama, and will star in the miniseries Taboo next year.
3. Millie Bobby Brown
Brown stars as Eleven, the mysterious psycho kinetically gifted girl, in TV series Stranger Things. Most recently, she starred in the music video for Sigma's single "Find Me."
2. Emilia Clarke
Clarke takes the No. 2 spot for her work in HBO’s Game of Thrones. This year she starred in the romance film Me Before You alongside Sam Claflin.
