Three Bags Of Human Feces Found Inside Walls Of Newly-Constructed Apartment
Three bags of human feces were found hidden inside a space in the ceiling of a newly constructed apartment building in South Korea.
Residents had moved into the building in Hwaseong, located in Gyeonggi province, in May when some of them began noticing the unbearable odor.
The discovery was made after occupants of one apartment noticed a “strong stench” coming from the closet in their master bedroom. The smell grew worse as the weather turned warmer, and the resident asked for an inspection of the house to be conducted in May, according to NextShark.
An official from the construction company inspected various parts of the apartment on July 2 and also checked the plumbing, floors and walls. While inspecting the master bedroom, they found three plastic bags containing human feces hidden in a space in the ceiling above the closet.
“As soon as the construction company employees removed the ceiling light, a strong odor began filling the room from that hole. They couldn’t even film or take photos of the evidence [due to the stench] and left with the bags as soon as possible,” a resident told Yonhap News in a Tuesday report.
Investigators believe the bags of human feces were left there by construction workers as they were completing the apartment’s interior work.
The resident living next door said he, too had noticed the stench and that it led to his pregnant wife experiencing extreme headaches. The stress caused by the discomfort resulted in the woman being hospitalized at some point, the husband said.
The building’s residents said the construction company has not yet given them a proper apology or paid heed to their request of having the walls and ceiling replaced.
“It’s already been 17 days since the bag was discovered, but the construction company is saying that removing the wallpaper and ceiling, sterilizing it, and spraying liquid detergent is a deodorizing operation. It’s been done, but I’m not sure how the construction company did it because the smell is still so strong that it gives me a headache,” a resident said, according to NextShark.
The construction company reportedly said they have plans to compensate the tenants for the damages.
