KEY POINTS

  • Alex Silva's magnificent submission victory earned him a $50,000 performance bonus
  • Kairat Akhmetov put himself in prime position to challenge the winner of the flyweight title fight between Adriano Moraes and Demetrious Johnson
  • Fabricio Andrade knocked out Kwon Won Il in spectacular fashion in a title eliminator bout

Despite the nearly-last minute change of plans to ONE 158’s main event, the overall quality of the card featured an explosive night of action with three fighters taking a big chunk of the spotlight.

Here are three of the biggest stories to come out of ONE 158.

Alex Silva Sets Up Trilogy Match With Adrian Mattheis

Following his flash knockout at the hands of his ONE 158 opponent a few months before, Alex Silva secured the first-round submission victory against Adrian Mattheis this time around.

A flurry of punches and submission attempts had surprised the aggressive Indonesian and allowed the former ONE strawweight champion to find himself in an advantageous position and locked in the inside heel hook for the victory and the $50,000 performance bonus.

During the post-fight interview inside the ring, Silva took time to address those who called him out for criticizing the referee in their first encounter for stopping the fight, which in his eyes was too early.

“Whatever happened in the first fight is the past. The most important thing [is that] I respect everybody… I know a lot of people say things on the internet that I do not respect [my opponents], man, that’s all b-------,” the Brazilian stated.

With both men having a win over the other, a third matchup could be on the horizon as they look to prove who truly is the more superior fighter.

Kairat Akhmetov Makes Case For ONE Flyweight Title Challenge

No. 2-ranked flyweight Kairat Akhmetov has his eyes on regaining the title that he lost after soundly defeating ONE staple Tatsumitsu Wada.

Wada simply had no answer for Akhmetov’s combinations and stellar ground game as the Kazakh native rode the momentum and took home the victory with relative ease.

While Akhmetov did get touched up by Wada from time to time, few of them were ever threatening enough to try and stop the runaway locomotive.

The Singapore-based promotion recently announced that flyweight king Adriano Moraes will be taking on Demetrious Johnson in a rematch of their April 2021 classic on August 27.

Because of Akhmetov’s victory and the impending title clash between the division’s top fighters, the possibility of the Kazakh being next in line for a title shot becomes even clearer.

Fabricio Andrade Backs Up Trash Talk With Stunning KO

A hellacious body kick was all that Fabricio Andrade needed to leave the Singapore Indoor Stadium happy as he knocked out Kwon Won Il in a minute and two seconds of the opening round.

Both ranked bantamweights came out swinging early and quickly as soon as the bell rang, but it was clear that Andrade’s accuracy was going to be a problem for the no. 2-ranked Kwon.

Little else was needed to be said of this fight since the no. 4-ranked fighter from Brazilian picked his spots and did so with lethal precision, resulting in him being one of the many fighters to be awarded a $50,000 performance bonus for the night.

Andrade made it clear who he wants next directly after knocking out the South Korean bantamweight.

“I’m coming for you John ‘Chicken’ Lineker. Don’t hide. You are next!” he exclaimed directly at the camera.

A matchup with the newly-crowned John Lineker could definitely be on the cards for “Wonder Boy” as he continues to make his ascent atop the bantamweight rankings.
