For the first time in nearly a decade, golf fans will be able to play with Tiger Woods in a video game. The legendary athlete has signed a long-term partnership with 2K, agreeing for his likeness to be used in the PGA Tour 2K franchise.

“I am looking forward to making my return to the video game landscape, and with 2K and HB Studios, I’ve found the right partners to make it happen,” Woods said in a statement. “I’m honored to take part in this opportunity and look forward to sharing my expertise and insights as we build the future of golf video games together.”

Woods hadn’t allowed a video game to use his likeness since 2013, according to Bleacher Report. EA Sports produced the Tiger Woods PGA Tour video game series from 1998-2013.

“In golf, there is no bigger icon than Tiger Woods. Like the rest of the world, we were saddened to hear of his recent accident, and we wish him a full and smooth recovery,” said David Ismailer, President at 2K. “We have been eager to announce our partnership with Tiger, whose legendary career has transcended the sport. We are thrilled to have him join our PGA TOUR 2K series as an Executive Director.”

The deal allows 2K to use Woods’ likeness in any other golf games it might publish aside from 2K, as well. PGA Tour 2K21 was released on Aug. 21 of last year.

The news comes as Woods continues to recover from a single-car crash. The golfer underwent emergency surgery on his leg on Feb. 23 and has remained in the hospital since the day of the accident. There is hope that Woods might be able to go back home soon.

It’s unknown if, or when, Woods will ever return to the actual PGA Tour.

Woods last golfed competitively in December. Two months before his car crash, Woods underwent back surgery that was expected to keep him off the course until at least the Masters in April.
