TikTok sensation Charli D’Amelio has responded to outrage over her attending large parties and hanging out with friends at restaurants amid the coronavirus pandemic.
D’Amelio faced backlash after she recently attended photographer Bryant Eslava’s birthday party. She was also spotted dining with friends at Il Pastaio In Beverly Hills.
The TikToker took to Instagram on Monday to address the issue.
"I am being safe. Before I do anything, I get a rapid test to make sure that I’m not being unsafe with what I’m doing, because I obviously do care about everyone. Outside dinners in California [are] also something that everyone is allowed to do, and if it wasn’t, I wouldn’t be going," she said on Instagram Live.
"I make sure I wear my mask when I walk in. I eat, I don’t have my mask on, I leave, I put my mask back on, so I make sure I’m being safe. Throughout this, I’ve been getting tests at least once a week and wearing masks whenever I’m out. I feel like that’s very important for you guys to know so you don’t think I’m just being careless but I do appreciate you guys for holding me accountable," she continued.
However, some of the social media users were not happy with her response as they felt that she should "just stay home."
"I don’t care if she’s consistently being tested she needs to follow the rules just like the rest of us. Her parents shouldn’t be letting her go to parties like this w/o masks and distancing. She’s a child and she’s not above the rules. It only takes one party," one person tweeted.
"Imagine taking tests every week when I literally know people who have been refused tests after coming into contact with COVID-19. It’s so selfish and entitled. I’m disappointed in her," another user wrote.
"But she should also know that the people she's hanging out with are even more careless about social distancing than she is... so it erases whatever precautions she takes. not a great example for her 9 y/o followers idk," another person commented.
Eslava’s birthday celebration, which took place at 40 Love, a restaurant in Los Angeles, was attended by Kylie Jenner and social media personalities including Dixie D’Amelio, Noah Beck, Madison Beer, Nick Austin, James Charles, Olivia Jade and Avani Gregg. After the photos from the party went viral, several social media users criticized them for attending a party during the pandemic.
