Tom Brady did not want his marriage to Gisele Bundchen to end, according to a report.

The NFL superstar, 45, and the Brazilian supermodel, 42, finalized their divorce Friday after 13 years of marriage, but an anonymous source close to Brady told People that "this was not Tom's idea. This was never Tom's idea." International Business Times could not independently verify this information.

Brady reportedly wanted his children with Bundchen — Vivian, 9, and Benjamin, 12 — to have a complete family and was willing to do "whatever it took to make things work," including going to therapy or marriage counseling, according to the insider.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback "wanted to do whatever he needed to do to fix things" with Bundchen because he "didn't want the divorce and he didn't want the marriage to end," the source said.

Brady "didn't want the kids to have divorced parents; he wanted to work this out," the tipster added.

But the source told People that Bundchen felt Brady's efforts to make things work "near the end" of their marriage were "a little bit too little, too late."

"She gave him a lot of opportunities to fix things, and he didn't," the source claimed, adding that the former Victoria's Secret Angel felt that Brady "wasn't as attentive as he should've been."

"That's what [Gisele] wanted: to be heard. And he wasn't hearing her," the insider added.

Brady and Bundchen both announced their divorce in separate statements on social media Friday. They confirmed that it was an "amicable" decision.

The athlete, who is also a dad to 15-year-old son Jack from a previous relationship, broke his silence on his split from Bundchen on Monday's episode of his "Let's Go!" podcast.

He spoke about "giving all you can to the team" as a professional athlete while going through personal challenges.

"Obviously, the good news is it's a very amicable situation and I'm really focused on two things, taking care of my family and certainly my children, and secondly, doing the best job I can to win football games," Brady said of their divorce.

"So, that's what professionals do. You focus at work when it's time to work, and then when you come home you focus on the priorities that are at home. All you can do is the best you could do," the seven-time Super Bowl champion said, adding that he will continue doing so as both a quarterback and a father.
