Tom Hanks Helps Man Propose To His Girlfriend After Slamming Harvey Weinstein
Tom Hanks recently made headlines for helping out a man propose to his girlfriend. The woman happens to be a huge fan of the award-winning actor.
The proposal took place at the Texas Book Festival in Austin over the weekend. Hanks was at a talk about his book, “Uncommon Type: Some Stories,” which was well attended by his supporters. After talking about his memoir, Hanks hosted a Q&A session that also paved the way for the man to propose to his girlfriend, according to E! News.
Hanks read out a question written by Ryan McFarling and addressed to his girlfriend, Nikki Young. “He’s Ryan’s question. It’s for Nikki Young… Nikki, will you marry me?” he said. The “Forrest Gump” actor asked McFarling and Young to come up the stage so that the man could ask his girlfriend properly. Young immediately said “yes.”
The couple had the chance to take photos with the 61-year-old Hanks and in front of approximately 1,000 guests that attended the book festival.
Meanwhile, Hanks also made headlines last month after he spoke up about Harvey Weinstein’s sexual misconducts. While speaking with The New York Times, the “Cast Away” actor was asked why he thinks a lot of people protected a man like Weinstein for a very long time.
“Well, that’s a really good question and it isn’t part and parcel to all of society somehow, that people in power get away with this? Look, I don’t want to rag on Harvey but so obviously something went down there,” he said.
Hanks is also unsupportive of Weinstein’s claims that his actions were a born out of the culture he was in. “You can’t buy, ‘Oh, well, I grew up in the ‘60s and ‘70s and so therefore… I did, too. So I think it’s like, well, what do you want from this position of power? I know all kinds of people that just love hitting on, or making the lives of underlings some degree of miserable, because they can,” he said.
