  • Tory Lanez was arrested Tuesday for violating a court order in Megan Thee Stallion case
  • He was released on bond the same day
  • Lanez was charged with assault after shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020

Rapper Tory Lanez was arrested Tuesday for allegedly violating the terms of a pre-trial protective order by sharing social media posts directed at Megan Thee Stallion. He was later released on bail.

Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was charged with assault after shooting the female rapper in the foot in 2020. He has since been prohibited from contacting her or discussing any details of the case with outside parties. Lanez was arrested and produced in a Los Angeles court Tuesday for allegedly violating the order by sharing information about the case on social media.

During a court hearing Tuesday, prosecutors said there was evidence that Lanez addressed Stallion directly on social media and disclosed DNA evidence to a third-party Twitter user. A tweet from Lanez in February read, "Good D*** had me f****** 2 best friends… and I got caught… that's what I apologized 4… It's sick how u spun it tho," reportedly addressing Stallion. He later deleted the tweet.

Another now-deleted social media post made on Feb. 23 by YouTube personality DJ Akademiks said, "Tory Lanez DNA was not found" on the gun used to shoot Stallion in 2020. In a follow-up tweet, the YouTuber claimed the results were "inconclusive in finding TORY DNA on the gun or magazine."

Though Lanez's lawyer, Shawn Holley, claimed that his client did not provide Akademiks any information about the case, L.A. County Superior Court Judge David Herriford agreed with prosecutors that the rapper's recent social media posts were directly addressing Stallion. The judge ordered the male rapper to stop making any public mention of the case or about Stallion.

Lanez was released the same day after paying a $350,000 bail.

"The DA requested that Mr. Peterson's bail be revoked or, in the alternative, that it be increased to $5 million. We are pleased that the Court rejected those outrageous requests," Holley told People after the rapper's release.

Lanez fired at Stallion in October 2020 as the bikini-clad rapper got out of her Cadillac SUV following an argument with the "Stupid Again" singer. The 29-year-old male rapper was charged with one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and personal use of a firearm, but he pleaded not guilty to all charges.
